ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS

Applicants will be given preference for admission if they list BSW as their choice in Band A and if they have social services experience. But other applicants will not be excluded if there are vacant places.

Applicants normally have to attend admission group interviews.

Other applicants, including overseas students and mature students, will also be considered.
PROGRAMME AIMS AND FEATURES

The programme provides training leading to a professionally recognised qualification in social work practice. The curriculum covers a number of areas, including welfare policy and services, social work theory and practice, human behaviour and social environment, social research, subjects in psychology, sociology, and social administration.

Students are required to take a social work skills laboratory course in the second year and undertake two fieldwork placements in local or overseas social work agencies, one in the vacation period after the second year, and one in the third year.

CAREER PROSPECTS

BSW graduates are qualified for registration as Registered Social Workers with the Social Workers Registration Board and can take on professional social work posts in the Social Welfare Department or non-government organisations in Hong Kong.

BSW graduates have also been successful in joining other careers that require good sensitivity in relating with people.
